Colpetty Police Crimes Unit OIC dies due to sudden illness

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Colpetty Police Crimes Unit has died due to a sudden illness.

The Officer is said to have fallen ill while exercising at the Galle Face Green in Colombo this morning.

The Police Media Unit said he was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital immediately after falling ill.

Hospital sources said the OIC had died following his admission to the hospital.

Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said that the OIC had received treatment for heart ailments and is suspected to have died due to a heart attack.

A post mortem examination will be conducted today to ascertain the cause of death, he said.

DIG Rohana added that the deceased is a 43-year-old resident of Passara and a father of two.

Two Police Officers were reported to have died due to sudden illnesses last month.

Nearly 1500 Police officers are confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus.

The cause of death of the Colpetty Police Crimes Unit OIC is yet to be ascertained and verified if it is a Covid-related death. (NewsWire)
