Excise Department officials have seized 200 kg of drugs in Puttalam, the largest haul to be seized by the Department to date, News First reported.

Excise Commissioner Ariyadasa Bodaragama told reporters that the drug haul was seized yesterday (06) following an operation conducted to bust a racket involving the smuggling of narcotics from Dubai.

He said 200 kgs of drugs, including heroin and a narcotic commonly known as “ICE’, valued at between Rs 2.5 and 3 billion were seized in the operation.

The drug haul was seized after Excise department officials had received intelligence information that it was to be smuggled into Sri Lanka by sea.

Ariyadasa Bodaragama further said four suspects were arrested while transporting 100 kilos each of the two narcotics that were hidden in the engine of a truck. (NewsWire)
