Two staff members of the hotel in which the England cricket team has been placed in Galle, have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Daily Mirror, the two staff members reportedly work in the kitchen of the hotel.

The Galle District Health Services Director’s office said the two infected persons are residents of Kapumulla and Weligama.

The two patients were detected after PCR tests were conducted on the hotel staff and members of the England cricket team.

Meanwhile, the hotel management said the two infected employees had not come into direct contact with the England cricket team.

Previously, Moeen Ali, a member of the England cricket team, had tested positive for COVID19 upon the team’s arrival in Sri Lanka.

It was further established that Ali had contracted the new strain of the virus currently spreading in the UK.

The England cricket team is currently engaged in the first test against Sri Lanka, which commenced in Galle yesterday (14). (NewsWire)
