Court issues notice on SLC and Sports Minister over petition filed by former cricketers, including Murali

The Court of Appeal today issued notice to the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on a petition filed by former cricketers, including spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan, and 11 other eminent personalities in Sri Lanka.

The SLC Chairman, Ex- Committee, and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa have been noticed to appear before the Court on 15 March, 2021.

Former Sri Lanka cricket administrator Kushil Gunasekara told NewsWire the petition calls on the court to order the restructuring of the SLC and to change the existing voting structure.

The petition was filed by former Sri Lanka cricketers Muttiah Muralitharan, Sidath Wettimuny, Michael Tissera, Ana Punchihewa, Vijaya Malalasekara, Rienzie Wijetilleke, Kushil Gunasekera, Dinal Phillips, Justice Saleem Marsoof, Somasundram Skandakumar, Thilan Wijesinghe and Dr. Palitha Kohona.

Kushil Gunasekera said the petition strongly calls for a new constitution for the Sri Lanka Cricket.

The petition was filed in Court by President’s Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena, Counsel Dr. Milhan Mohamad and instructing Attorneys from the Sudath Perera Associates. (NewsWire)
