Two suicide kits and landmines found in Vavuniya

Two suicide kits weighing 5Kg have been recovered from a forest area in the Settikulam Police area in Vavuniya.

According to the Lankadeepa, the Settikulam Police said the suicide kits believed to be owned by the LTTE was found last evening.

The kits were found in the forest area close to the Sinnathambanai Tank by officers attached to the Settikulam Police and Special Task Force based on a tip off received by the Vavuniya Police Intelligence Unit.

The officers recovered two suicide kits weighing 2 ½ kg each which were buried securely under a tree in the forest area.

The Police suspect the suicide kits belonged to the LTTE, and would have been buried to be used during the war.

The Settikulam Police said a court order will be obtained to seek the assistance of the Special Task Force to diffuse the two suicide kits.

Meanwhile, a suspect has been arrested for the possession of landmines and explosive materials in the Senapilavi area in Nedunkerni, Vavuniya.

According to the Lankadeepa, 148 landmines and 24kg of explosive materials were seized from the suspect’s house yesterday.

The Police said 22 out of the 148 landmines were in functioning condition. (NewsWire)
