The Police have warned the public to remain vigilant of motorcycle thefts across the country.

Police Spokesman Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said six motorcycle robberies were reported in the 24-hours ending at 06am yesterday.

He said the thefts were reported from the Chunnakam, Katana, Puttalam, China Bay, Polpithigama, and Anuradhapura areas.

Stating that there was a significant increase in motorcycle thefts at present, DIG Rohana said it is being conducted by criminals involved in organized crimes.

He pointed out that the criminals steal the bikes and take it apart to sell it as spare parts, due to which the bikes could never be recovered.

The Police Spokesman requested motorcyclists to remain vigilant and to take all necessary precautions when parking their bikes in public places.

DIG Ajith Rohana said the Police have received various CCTV footage of suspects stealing motorcycles parked in public places and fleeing the area. (NewsWire)
