Special notice to Public from Police on Rs 5000 notes

The Police have warned the public to remain vigilant of counterfeit currency notes during the festive season in April.

Police Spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana said there is a significant increase in the circulation of counterfeit Rs. 5000 currency notes.

He said the Police seized 20 counterfeit Rs. 5000 notes in Vallaichenai on Sunday, while one suspect was arrested after exchanging a fake Rs. 5000 note in Kamburupitiya on Tuesday.

The suspect was produced in Court and has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department for further investigations.

DIG Ajith Rohana urged the public to remain vigilant as organized criminals will attempt to circulate fake currency notes especially during the festive season.

He requested the public to check if the Rs. 5000 notes in their possession are genuine.

The Police Spokesman further cautioned retail shop owners to also remain vigilant when exchanging money with customers during this period. (NewsWire)
