Four elevated railway tracks to be constructed in Colombo

Four elevated railway tracks will be constructed in the Colombo City-limits to ease traffic congestion.

The Cabinet has granted approval for the proposal submitted by the Urban Development authority in this regard.

Cabinet co-spokesman Minister Udaya Gammanpila said the project will be launched under a Public -Private Partnership agreement with private investors.

He said the four railway tracks have been named Raktha, Haritha, Neela, and Dham.

The Raktha railway track, which is 42km in distance, will be constructed from Ragama to Kottawa via Pita Kotte.

Haritha, which is 28km, will be constructed form Moratuwa to Kelaniya through Narahenpita.

Neela is 23 km in distance and will be constructed from Kottawa to Hunupitiya via Isurupaya in Battaramulla.

Minister Gammanpila said Dham will be constructed from the Port City in Colombo to Athurugiriya via Borella. (NewsWire)
