Two bowser trucks have been seized on suspicion of transporting substandard coconut oil.

The Police said the two trucks were seized in Dankotuwa.

Nearly 27,500 litres of coconut oil were found in the two bowser trucks.

The Police said it is suspected that the coconut oil may contain Aflatoxins, which are poisonous carcinogens that are produced by certain molds which grow in soil, decaying vegetation, hay, and grains.

The Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) handed over the results of the samples of imported coconut oil that were subjected to tests, to the Director General (DG) of Customs yesterday.

State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said the DG of the SLSI has confirmed that all imported coconut oil samples were rejected due to its substandard quality.

He said it was further revealed that the imported coconut oil samples tested by the SLSI contained Aflatoxins. (NewsWire)
