A special four- day operation will be launched by the Police from today in order to prevent motorcycle accidents.

Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said nearly five deaths due to motorcycle accidents are being reported on a daily basis.

He said the special four-day operations will be conducted islandwide, to inspect motorcycles, and to monitor traffic violations and reckless riding by motorcyclists, among other offences.

DIG Ajith Rohana said the Police are not conducting this operation to harass or intimidate motorcyclists in any manner.

He said the measures are being taken to curtail accidents, and to prevent motorcyclists becoming victims of road accidents.

The Police Spokesman pointed out that there has been a significant increase in accidents over the last few months. (NewsWire)
