The Supreme Court has dismissed a Fundamental Rights petition filed by the Principal of Royal College Colombo, B.A. Abeyratne, the Daily News reported.

The Court refused to grant leave to proceed with the FR petition after it was taken up for consideration yesterday.

Abeyratne had filed the petition challenging the decision to remove him from his post as the Principal of the school and to transfer him as a Director of the State Ministry of Education Reforms.

During the consideration of the petition, the Royal College Union and Royal College Trust had informed the Court that the petitioner had failed to name them as respondents due to a misinterpretation that the two Unions had extended their support to him.

The Deputy Solicitor appearing for the educational authorities had pointed out to the court that the petitioner has not presented facts regarding serious disciplinary lapses on his part, in his petition.

The Counsel who appeared for the respondents and intervenient parties thereafter moved court not to grant leave to proceed or stay the transfer as prayed in the petition.

The Supreme Court three-judge-bench had decided to dismiss the petition after taking into consideration these facts. (NewsWire)
