Decision to suspend Sri Lanka’s Covid vaccination program revised

The decision to suspend Sri Lanka’s Covid vaccination program has been changed.

Head of the Epidemiology Unit Dr Sudath Samaraweera told NewsWire that they have decided to continue to administer the vaccine doses to persons over the age of 60.

On 1st of April, Health Ministry announced that the Government has temporarily suspended the coronavirus vaccination programme from Wednesday night (31).

State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Sudarshani Fernandopulle said the vaccination programme was temporarily suspended due to a delay in receiving more Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines.

State Minister said that they decided to hold onto the existing stock of vaccines for the second jab, in the event the expected stock does not arrive on time. (NewsWire)
