Movement restrictions have been imposed in the Thiththawalyaya area in Kurunegala due to the detection of a large number of Covid patients.

The restrictions were imposed from yesterday until further notice.

A businessman in the area had initially tested positive for COVID-19.

Authorities had subjected 72 of his close contacts to PCR tests, out of which 29 had tested positive for COVID-19.

A total of 267 persons from 67 families have been ordered to self-quarantine as a result.

Kumbukkate Public Health Inspector (PHI) Sisira Bandara Basnayake said all houses have been placed under quarantine and movement restrictions have been imposed in the area following the detections.

He said there was a high risk of the spread of the virus due to individuals visiting the mosque in the area.

Basnayake further said people from other areas who had associated with residents of Thiththawalyaya have been traced and have been placed in quarantine. (NewsWire)
