Sri Lankan Cricket selectors are considering dropping several senior cricketers from the Sri Lanka ODI side for the upcoming Bangladesh and England ODI tours.

A senior SLC official told NewsWire that selectors are unlikely to consider senior players Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Suranga Lakmal and Thisara Perera for the upcoming limited overs tours.

“The selectors want to give opportunities for young players, so it’s likely that several senior players will get dropped from the side, and a final decision will be taken in next few days,” the SLC official added.

Sri Lanka will play an ODI series in Bangladesh next month and then tour England for ODI & T20I series’ in June.

If Sri Lankan selectors decide to drop Dimuth Karunaratne from the ODI side, T20I captain Dasun Shanaka is a leading contender to captain the ODI side. (NewsWire)
