A 31-year-old man has been arrested for his involvement in encouraging motorists to protest the closing of roads in Borella for the movement of a VVIP convoy.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said vehicles had honked at the convoy of visiting Chinese Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe who had passed by the area on Tuesday (27).

He said the suspect had been arrested after an investigation had been launched into a video on the incident that had been circulated on social media.

The suspect, who is a resident of Battaramulla, had been arrested by the Borella Police yesterday.

DIG Ajith Rohana said the man has been accused of obstructing Police officers from carrying out their duties and aiding the illegal gathering of the public.

His actions are also deemed as posing a threat to a visiting dignitary and his VVIP convoy, he added.

The Police Spokesman said the suspect, who had previously resided in Australia for nearly 10-years, will be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s court today.

The Borella Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
