One individual has been injured following a shooting incident that took place during an attempted robbery outside a private bank in Anuradhapura today.
An official from the bank accompanied by a security officer had arrived to deposit cash to the ATM outside the bank’s premises early this morning.
Two individuals who had arrived on a motorcycle had attempted to steal the money from the two officials.
The Police said a scuffle had broken out between the four individuals at the time during which the weapon of the security officer had accidentally fired, injuring him.
The injured security officer has been admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital following the incident.
The two suspects who were unable to steal the money had reportedly escaped on their motorcycle.
The Anuradhapura Police is conducting investigations into the attempted robbery. (NewsWire)
