WATCH : New unit for Sri Lanka Police

The Paramilitary Unit of the Sri Lanka Police Special Task Force (STF) has established a Special Water-borne Operation Squadron.

The Police said 16 STF officers have undergone special training by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Sri Lanka Powerboats Association.

The Special Water-borne Operation Squadron was launched by the Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara at the Bolgoda Lake yesterday.

The special Unit will be tasked with conducting operations with regard to illegal activities, such as sand mining, felling of trees, smuggling, and deforestation. (NewsWire)
