A 38-year-old man has been arrested for organizing lectures on extremism for school leavers in Muttur in December 2018.

The Police said the suspect was arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) after investigations were conducted into incidents that had taken place before and after the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

Investigations conducted by the TID and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had revealed that the suspect had organized the lectures on the orders of the Easter attacks ringleader Zahran Hashim.

The suspect will be detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and will remain under the custody of the TID.

The Police further said another two suspects who are currently in the Kegalle and Polonnaruwa prisons have also been taken into the custody of the TID.

Investigations have revealed that the two men had undergone training under Zahran Hashim.

The suspects who are remanded over various offences linked to the Easter attacks will also be detained under the PTA, under the custody of the TID, based on a court order.
