A female Development Officer attached to the Kesbewa Divisional Secretariat had been assaulted by a motorcyclist last evening.
The Police said the incident had occurred at around 06.50 pm in the Hedigama area in the Piliyandala Police area.
The female Government officer was en route to her residence after distributing essential relief packs to the public in isolated areas when she was attacked by the suspect.
The man had arrived on a motorcycle and had assaulted her and left the area.
A special investigation has been launched into the incident, while the Police have uncovered details of the suspect. A special Police team will be deployed to apprehend the suspect. The Police warned that strict action, including imprisonment, will be imposed against those who obstruct Government officers from carrying out their duties. (NewsWire)
