The pilot project to issue Digital Identity Cards for the coronavirus vaccination drive was launched on Wednesday.

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa announced that the pilot project was launched at the Sri Lanka Army hospital in Sri Jayawardenapura, Kotte.

He said the project is a joint initiative of the Health Ministry and the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka.

“We aim to open online registration & issue Vaccine ID islandwide as soon as possible in order to fast track & streamline the entire national vaccination drive,” Minister Rajapaksa tweeted.

The relevant website, which is expected to be launched within the next two days, will allow people to schedule an appointment (date, time and vaccination centre) to receive the COVID jab.

Vaccinated individuals will be able to obtain an internationally valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate through this program. (NewsWire)
