Three, including driver arrested over death of Puttalam UC Chairman KA Baiz

Three people, including the driver of the Puttalam Urban Council Chairman KA Baiz, have been arrested in connection to the accident in which the latter had died yesterday.

52-year-old Baiz is reported to have been traveling in the back of an open truck after bathing in the Ralmaduwa Tank in Eluwankulama, during which he had been thrown out of the vehicle.

The UC Chairman who had sustained serious injuries had been pronounced dead after being treated at the Puttalam Hospital.

The Puttalam and Wanathawilluwa Police, during a joint investigation, have arrested the driver of the vehicle and two others who had accompanied KA Baiz during the incident.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the men had been intoxicated at the time of the accident. 

The Police said statements will be recorded from the three suspects in connection to the incident.

They further said the magisterial inquest and autopsy into the death will be conducted today. (NewsWire)
