Travel restrictions: 11 points from today’s special Covid press

The islandwide travel restriction enforced in Sri Lanka has been extended from the 31of May to the 7th of June.

The travel restriction will be relaxed from 04 am to 11 pm tomorrow (25) for the public to purchase essential goods.

The Government said the restrictions will also be relaxed on the 31st of May and the 4th of June from 04 am -11 pm.

Key decisions taken with regard to the travel restrictions:

  1. Travel restrictions extended till the 7th of June.

  2. Travel restriction will be relaxed on the 25th and 31st of May, and on the 04 of June from 04 am to 11 pm.

  3. Only supermarkets, grocery stores, bakeries, fruit and vegetable shops, fish and meat stalls, and pharmacies will be permitted to remain open when restrictions are relaxed.

  4. Liquor stores will remain closed when travel restrictions are relaxed.

  5. One person per house will be permitted to step outdoors to purchase essential goods when the travel restriction is relaxed.

  6. The public urged to visit stores closest to their residence.

  7. Food, vegetable, and essential goods delivery trucks will be permitted to operate during restrictions.

  8. Vehicle movements of the general public will continue to be restricted during the period that the restrictions are relaxed.

  9. Only essential services and delivery services permitted to operate during restrictions.

  10. The public urged to adhere to health guidelines when stepping outdoors.

  11. National Identity Card (NIC) system will not be in effect when travel restrictions are relaxed.
