Police ASP transferred over Kurunegala Mayor’s birthday celebration

The Police headquarters has decided to transfer an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) for organizing the birthday celebration of the Mayor of Kurunegala Thushara Sanjeewa.

The ASP is said to have organized a cake cutting for the Mayor within the Kurunegala Police Station premises, on the sidelines of a pirith chanting ceremony held yesterday.

Earlier, a special Police team was appointed to investigate the birthday party organized for Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa in violation of the quarantine law.

A 7-day pirith chanting ceremony had been organized by the Kurunegala Police in view of the coronavirus pandemic in Sri Lanka. The Mayor of Kurunegala is reported to have attended the religious observance yesterday, during which his birthday had also been celebrated at the venue.

The ASP attached to the Kurunegala Police Station is reported to have organized a cake cutting to celebrate the Mayor’s birthday.

The event has been held at a time when all public gatherings and parties have been prohibited under the new health guidelines that were issued on the 1st of May 2021 to curtail the spread of the third wave of the coronavirus.

Earlier today, event organizer Chandimal Jayasinghe and model Piumi Hansamali were arrested and released on bail for hosting a birthday party at a five- star hotel in Colombo yesterday in violation of the quarantine law. (NewsWire)
