The Government has defended its decision to provide only one dose of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine.

Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told reporters today that the move had been approved by an expert committee headed by the Health Ministry’s Deputy Director-General (Public Health Services I), Dr. S.M. Arnold.

The Minister made the statement in response to a question raised by journalists on people in Kandy being requested to sign a form prior to receiving the Russian manufactured vaccine.

According to reports, those who had received the vaccine in Kandy had been asked to sign a form expressing their consent to receive only one dose of the Sputnik V vaccine.

Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath had told Daily Mirror yesterday that the Health Ministry did not give such directions to obtain signatures before the first dose of Sputnik-V vaccine was administered.(NewsWire)
