A decision has been taken to shift the Police Headquarters in Colombo to a 14 acres land in Attidiya, Dehiwala on the Pepiliyana main road, the Government said.

Cabinet co-spokesman Udaya Gammanpila told reporters today that the Cabinet had approved a proposal in July 2012 to move the Police Headquarters to Mirihana, but no action has been taken in this regard.

He said, however, Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera had submitted a proposal during the Cabinet meeting yesterday to move the Police Headquarters to Pepiliyana, which had received the Cabinet approval.

The Police Headquarters is currently maintained in three buildings which are more than 100 years old, situated in the middle of the road connecting York Street and Chaithya Road in Colombo.

As per the proposal submitted by Minister Weerasekera, the Police Headquarters is to be moved to land owned by the Sri Lanka Police, which is situated at 142, Belantota Junction, Attidiya Road, Dehiwala on the Pepiliyana main road. (NewsWire)
