The decision to lift the islandwide travel restriction that has been enforced in the country as announced on 21st June is not final, the Government said today.

Responding to reporters, Cabinet co-spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella hinted at the possibility of extending the travel restriction.

He further said that the lifting of the travel restriction cannot be confirmed as yet, and a decision will be taken in this regard closer to the said date.

Minister Rambukwella added that the extending or relaxing of the islandwide travel restriction depends on the current developments at the said time.

The Government imposed the travel restriction on the 21st of May to curtail the rapid spread of the third wave of the coronavirus.

The travel restriction was thereafter extended twice from the 7th of June to the 14th of June, and then till the 21st of June. (NewsWire)
