Private pharmaceutical firm, Matrix Lifecare (PVT) LTD, has issued a statement on the recent raid that was conducted on its office premises in Dehiwala by the Police and officials from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).

Earlier, it was reported that the Police and NMRA officials had seized a large stock of expired drugs labeled with forged dates of manufacture and expiry during the raid.

Issuing a press release, Matrix Lifecare (PVT) LTD said that “the Food and Drug Inspectors of the NMRA had expressly stated that nothing illegal or unlawful was happening within our premises and that our company has all the required documents and approvals to carry out business as usual.”

It further explained that however, unfortunately, due to delays caused by the current Covid-19 pandemic and associated restrictions within the country, there was a backlog in the disposal system of the company, due to which stocks of expired goods had still not been completely discarded in a timely manner.

Pointing out that these were the expired goods found in the company premises, Matrix Lifecare (PVT) LTD emphasized that it explicitly and unequivocally states that at no point in time whatsoever were expired goods ever sold to customers, and such goods were always intended to be disposed of.
