Police identify chief suspect behind Weligama heroin haul

Investigations have revealed the identity of the chief suspect behind the drug smuggling ring operated via the sea that was busted in Weligama on Sunday.

The Police said the suspect has been identified as Nadun Chinthaka aka ‘Harak Kata’ who is currently residing in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). 

Two more suspects were arrested from the Kottegoda and Dickwella areas last night by the Police Anti-Narcotic Unit. They are to be produced in court today.

13 suspects have been arrested so far in connection to the nearly 200kg of heroin that was seized off the coast of Weligama. 

11 suspects, who were arrested on Sunday, have been produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court after which they were detained for a period of 14-days. 

The Police Anti-Narcotic Unit is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
