The Chairman of the Vavuniya Urban Council (UC) who was arrested on charges of assaulting the manager of the Vavuniya Rest House, has been released on Police bail.
Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said Vavuniya UC Chairman Rasalingam Gauthamanthe was arrested earlier today after the victim had filed a complaint on the incident.
Preliminary investigations had revealed that two more complaints had been filed against the suspect.
DIG Ajith Rohana said two employees of the resthouse had filed the complaints, accusing the Vavuniya UC Chairman of intimidation.
He added that the suspect had been arrested after further investigations had been conducted by the Vavuniya Police. (NewsWire)
