The carcass of a whale has washed ashore on the Kytes beach in Jaffna this morning, fishermen from the area have reported.

The fishermen have expressed suspicion that the nearly 20-feet long whale may have died due to the chemicals that had been discharged from the MV X-Press Pearl vessel which had caught fire off the coast of Colombo.

But there is no confirmation that what exactly caused the death.

Meanwhile Environmentalists have revealed that since the disaster, the carcasses of nearly 30 turtles and 07 dolphins have been discovered across the coastal belts of Sri Lanka as of last evening. (NewsWire)
