Two members of the Kolonnawa Urban Council have been arrested for the theft of a machine belonging to the Paddy Marketing Board.
The Police said the suspects had stolen the machine from the stores of the Paddy Marketing Board in the Meethotamulla area in Wellampitiya.
The Wellampitiya Police had received a complaint on the theft on 11th June, following which investigations had been launched into the matter.
Further investigations had led to the arrest of two suspects. They were identified as one who had purchased the machine and the other who had transported it to the respective stores in Meethotamulla.
However, the two Kolonnawa urban Councillors were arrested yesterday in connection to the theft following further investigations conducted by the Wellampitiya Police.
The Police said the two suspects will be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today. (NewsWire)
