The islandwide travel restriction imposed in Sri Lanka will be lifted at 04 am on Monday (21).

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva told NewsWire the travel restriction will be reimposed at 10 pm on Wednesday, the 23rd of June.

The travel restriction will thereafter continue until 04 am on Friday, the 25th of June.

General Silva said inter-province travel will remain banned during the enforcement and relaxing of the travel restriction.

He further said weddings, and public and private gatherings will be prohibited during this period.

This includes visits to residences of relatives and friends, and public places such as the Galle Face Green, the Army Commander explained.

The islandwide travel restriction was imposed on the 21st of May due to the rapid spread of the third wave of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka.

The restriction was twice extended by the Government, from the 28th of May to the 7th of June, and thereafter till the 21st of June. (NewsWire)
