Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe says that he decided to enter the Parliament because of the current Covid-19 and political situations in the country.

“I was not planning to come to Parliament, but there was lot of pressure for me to do so specially because of the current Covid-19 situation in the country, ” the former PM said, speaking during an online event.

Pointing out that a lot of people were dying due to Covid, he said “I thought I need to go and voice about these issues, that’s the main reason.”

“Politically I have not seen a Government losing its popularity so quickly and the Opposition has not been abled to provide an alternative. It is a serious situation,” the former PM added.

Ranil Wickremesinghe’s name was gazetted as a MP yesterday, and he is expected to take oaths as UNPs only MP in Parliament next week.
