Minister reveals details on proposed online traffic fine payment system

The Government will introduce a method to pay traffic fines online, Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara said in a media briefing on Friday.

The minister said that the government is working on a system where the traffic fines can be paid instantly using credit cards/ mobile phone and also the the receipt to be received to the smart phone of the police officer who issued it, instantly.

Minister Sarath Weerasekara said this during a press conference where police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana also participated.

A question was raised to DIG Ajith Rohana on how traffic fines can be paid with the the current situation in the country where post offices are closed.

Replying to the question, The Police spokesperson said that once the country is fully operational, a period of 14 days from that day onwards will be granted to pay such traffic fines imposed during this period.

Minister Weerasekara was adding to this and revealed the government’s plans to digitize the traffic fine payment system. (NewsWire)
