Sri Lanka commemorates International Yoga Day (Video)

Sri Lanka commemorated International Yoga Day, which is observed today, the 21st of June, with many Government officials engaging in yoga sessions.

The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka has thanked Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and wife Shiranthi Rajapaksa for inspiring people by engaging in a session of yoga.

A glimpse of their yoga session was shared via an image on social media by the High Commission, but it is unclear when the picture was taken.

The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka also said that in a letter, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today extended his gratitude to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for making International Yoga Day celebrations in Sri Lanka a resounding success every year.

A special yoga session was also held at the Param Dhamma Chaitya Pirivena in Ratmalana in the presence of Most Venerable Dr. Maitape Wimalasara Thero today, it added.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa and his wife Limini also commemorated International Yoga Day today, by engaging in a yoga session.

“Today as the world is undergoing tremendous change, the value of Yoga has never been more appreciated. Limini & I ensure to make time to practice Yoga daily due to its benefits, with little Kesara by our side. Thank you Nandana Sir for showing me the path to Yoga. #IDY2021,” Namal Rajapaksa tweeted.

Furthermore, the Sri Lanka Army said Army Commander Shavendra Silva also marked International Yoga Day by participating in a yoga session that was organized at the Army headquarters today. (NewsWire)
