Suspect remanded for obstructing duties of PHI officers

An individual has been remanded for obstructing the duties of Public Health Inspectors (PHI) in Mahiyanganaya yesterday.

The Police said a monk from the Gemunupura area in Mahiyanganaya had tested positive for COVID-19 recently.

Following the detection, PHI officers had commenced tracing direct contacts of the infected monk. The suspect is reported to have attempted to prevent the PHI officers from conducting contact tracing.

The Police said the suspect was arrested and produced before the Mahiyanganaya Court yesterday, after which he was remanded till the 9h of July.

The Police warned that it is a punishable offence under the quarantine law to obstruct the duties of health workers involved in Covid-related activities. (NewsWire)
