15-year-old girl sexual abuse case: Maldivian & two website creators arrested

Four suspects, including a Maldivian have been arrested in connection to the sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl.

Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said the suspects were arrested following further investigations conducted into the online sex trafficking ring that was busted in Mount Lavinia in June.

He said apart from the main website used to promote the child for sex in exchange for cash, four other websites had also been used for this purpose.

Two suspects linked to one website were arrested yesterday, while a Maldivian national who has been identified as a customer has also been arrested on charges of aiding the sex trafficking ring.

Meanwhile, the manager of a hotel which had provided rooms for the customers of the sex trafficking ring has also been arrested.

SDIG Ajith Rohana said, a total of 32 suspects, including the victim’s mother have been arrested so far.

Investigations into the online sex trafficking ring is being conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department and the Police Children and Women Bureau. (NewsWire)
