A 32-year-old man from Mawanella has been arrested in connection to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

The Police said the suspect was arrested following investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) into the events that had occurred prior to and after the attacks.

Investigations have revealed that the ringleader of the Easter attacks Zahran Hashim had conducted several extremism-related lectures to Muslim youths across the country prior to the attacks.

A total of 13 suspects have been arrested for organizing and hosting the lecturers on behalf of Hashim in 2018.

The man arrested in Mawanella yesterday is also suspected to have attended such extremism-related lectures.

The Police said the suspect has been identified as a businessman involved in online textile trading from Mawanella.

The suspect will be detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and will be transported to the TID headquarters in Colombo for interrogations. (NewsWire)
