24-year-old arrested for aiding extremist activities

Another suspect has been arrested for aiding extremist activities of the ringleader of the 2019 Easter attacks Zahran Hashim. 

A 24-year-old resident of Narammala was arrested in Kochchikade by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) yesterday.

The Police said he was arrested following investigations conducted by the TID and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) into events that had occurred prior to and after the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

The suspect is reported to have aided Zahran and his followers to organize and conduct lectures on extremism.

The Police said 14 suspects have been arrested thus far for aiding Zahran and his followers to organize and conduct lectures to school leavers and students who had completed the GCE Ordinary Level Examination between 2018-2019.

They said the suspect arrested yesterday will be detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and will be further interrogated by the TID. (NewsWire)
