China has announced that it will donate another 1.6 million doses of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine to Sri Lanka.

The Chinese Embassy in Colombo said the vaccines will arrive in the country in the coming weeks.

The donation is being made to speed up Sri Lanka’s ongoing Covid vaccination drive, it said.

The Chinese Embassy further tweeted “We always remember all the support received from Sri Lanka when China was in trouble”.

This is the second consignment of the vaccine to be provided as a donation to Sri Lanka.

Nearly 600,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine were initially donated to Sri Lanka in March.

Thereafter, 03 million doses of the vaccine have been received by July under a purchase order by the State Pharmaceutical Corporation of Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
