Inter-province travel: Operation of public buses and trains temporarily suspended

July 16, 2021 at 4:53 PM

A decision has been taken to temporarily suspend inter-provincial public transportation, the Ministry of Transport announced today.

State Minister of Passenger Transportation Dilum Amunugama said bus and train services will be suspended for a period of two weeks.

He further said the suspension will come into effect from tomorrow (17) and will remain until the 1st of August.

Despite the Islandwide travel restriction being lifted in June, the inter-province travel ban has been enforced to date.

The travel ban has been partially relaxed only to enable the public transportation of essential services workers.

However, the inter-province travel ban remains in effect for the general public. (NewsWire)
