Man arrested for selling vehicle belonging to car rental in Homagama

A 32-year-old man has been arrested for acquiring a vehicle on rental and later selling it to a third party. 

The Police said the suspect had acquired a Honda Vezel from a car rental in the Homagama area for a period of two weeks and had later disappeared. 

The company had thereafter found that the documents provided by the suspect were fake.

Investigations conducted by the Nugegoda Police following a complaint from the company had found that the suspect was wanted for his involvement in various crimes. 

It was also revealed that the Kandy Police is already conducting investigations into several crimes committed by the suspect, while 48 complaints have been filed against him, and the Kandy Magistrate Court has also issued five warrants against the man. 

The suspect, who is a resident of Kandy, has been remanded till 09th August after being produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Owners and the management of vehicle rentals have been urged to remain vigilant of such individuals and to ascertain the validity of the documents provided to acquire vehicles. 

The Nugegoda and Kandy Police are conducting further investigations into the activities of the suspect. (NewsWire)
