The special quarantine operation launched to inspect buses deployed for public transportation will continue across Sri Lanka and especially in the Western Province today.

The Police said reports have been received of buses violating the quarantine regulation by transporting passengers beyond the seating capacity outlined in the health guidelines on COVID-19.

The Ministry of Passenger Transportation has instructed the Police to carry out inspections to ascertain the buses were transporting passengers based on seating capacity.

The Police said 11 drivers were arrested while their buses were seized during the special operation conducted in Colombo yesterday on charges of violating the seating capacity outlined in the health guidelines.

They said the special quarantine operation will continue today as well and urged the drivers and assistants of buses deployed for public transportation to adhere to the quarantine regulations. (NewsWire)
