Former Governor of the Western Province and the leader of the National Unity Front Azath Salley has been remanded until the 31st of August.

Salley is being detained by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) after being arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.

He was ordered to be remanded by Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala yesterday.

The Magistrate had visited Salley at the Colombo National Hospital, where he is being treated for a heart ailment, and thereafter ordered him to be remanded on a request made by the CID.

Salley was arrested for a controversial statement he had made during a media briefing pertaining to the 2019 Easter attacks.

After the CID had informed the court that Salley’s interrogations have been completed, the Magistrate remanded him allowing him to stay in hospital until the end of treatment in the custody of the prison authorities. (NewsWire)
