Namal welcomes TamilNadu CM Stalin’s statement on SL refugees

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday announced a package of welfare measures at a cost of Indian Rs.317.40 Crore for the welfare of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees living in special camps in the State.

Making a suo motu statement under Rule 110, the Chief Minister said his government would ensure decent and better livelihood opportunities for the Lankan Tamil refugees.

Reacting to Tamil Nadu state government’s decision Sri Lankan Minister Namal Rajapaksa said that he welcome the decision taken by the Chief Minister.

“While welcoming TamilNadu CM MK Stalin’s statement on Sri Lankan refugees, after the end of the war in 2009, then Government of Mahinda Rajapaksa welcomed back refugees who had fled to Tamil Nadu. According to stats, 3,567 families have returned back to Sri Lanka with the help of UNHRC facilitation” Minister Rajapaksa tweeted.

“Those who have returned and who require assistance have been provided with houses & livelihoods. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa & PM Mahinda Rajapaksa will ensure all refugees who return back are safe in their homeland & can restart their lives.” Minister added. (NewsWire)
