Several citizens in Mongolia complained about the poor service of car towing companies in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, where companies illegally tow 150-200 cars from the city streets, without communicating with the vehicle owners and informing them about their car towing, which earns 3 billion and 240 million tugriks. Citizens believe that the road used to accommodate 100,000 cars per day, but the number tripled to about 500-600 thousand cars, which makes the situation out of control and more difficult, they demanded that the authorities put the profits of car towing companies into state taxes and spend on creating more parking spaces and improving roads.

In an interview with A24, Galaa – Citizen said that, “UB road was built to accommodate only 100.000 cars a day but this number has already been tripled and about 500-600 thousand cars are on the road making the already out of hand situation harder. Making matters worse, these towing companies ‘steal’ cars even if the owner left their phone number on the windshield of their cars. These towns count to 100-200 vehicles a day which makes 3bln 240mln tugriks a year. This money should be put into state taxing and spent on creating more parking spaces.”

In an interview with A24, Saruul – Citizen said that, “What makes people angry is that these towing companies tow cars without their owners’ permission. They usually get the car towed in 10-20 mins time, while the owner goes shopping. They don’t even bother calling and telling their cars are being towed. What they do is just get the car and charge owners. Even there was an outrageous incident a few years ago where they towed away from the car with the baby sleeping inside. They don’t pay taxes because when the owner gets his car back they don’t give out VAT slips. That means there is no VAT taxation going back to the country.”

In an interview with A24, Batzaya – Citizen said, “Ulaanbaatar city is not a good place for car owners because there aren’t enough parking spaces around the office buildings. This situation doesn’t help car owners but also it gives more headaches to its citizens by not controlling illegal towing companies which tow cars and make money but not investing back in creating more spaces for parking lots. Simply this makes things worse. These companies don’t pay tax so people can not know where they could get their cars back and can’t control how much they should be charged for parking their cars in no parking place.”
