Govt. approves Rs. 106 Milion as reward scheme for Paralympic winners: 2 cars gifted by SLAAJ

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to grant monetary rewards to the Sri Lankan athletes who secured medals at the Paralympic Games 2020 in Tokyo, Japan recently.

Sri Lankan Paralympians Dinesh Priyantha Herath and Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku won gold and bronze respectively, in the Men’s Javelin event at the Games.

Following their victory, the Sports Ministry had proposed to award Rs. 50 million to Herath and Rs. 20 million to Kodithuwakku as monetary rewards for their performances.

The Ministry of Sports announced today that on the request of Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa a special Cabinet paper was approved for the reward scheme of the two Paralympians.

The Ministry further said accordingly, the entirety of the prize money will be allocated to medal-winning athletes and their respective coaches. 

A total of Rs. 106.625 million has been allocated as prize money for the athletes who participated in the Paralympic Games 2020.

Meanwhile, Rs. 19.125 million has been allocated for the coaches of the Paralympians.

The Sports Ministry said the prize money for the World Record and an additional Rs. 1 million for the bronze medal has been sponsored by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

The Prize money allocated by the Sports Ministry is as follows:

Gold – Rs. 50M

Bronze – Rs. 20M

4th – 8th place – Rs. 2.5M

9th – 16th Place – Rs. 1M (x4) 

World Record – Rs. 10M 

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Automobile Association in Japan (SLAAJ) has presented two motor vehicles to Dinesh Priyantha Herath and Samith Dulan Kodithuwakku.
