The Cabinet has approved a proposal to construct a new building to host all the divisions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in one premise.

Accordingly, the proposal submitted by the Foreign Affairs Minister to allocate a plot of land from the land utilized by the Industrial Technological Institute at present which is situated at Vidya Mawatha has received Cabinet approval.

The land which belongs to the Urban Development Authority (UDA) will now be utilized for the construction of a new building.

The measure has been taken as several divisions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are maintained in different venues from the head office due to lack of sufficient building space within the Republic building where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently located.

According to the subject Minister, this situation has led to various administrative shortcomings leading to the requirement of constructing a sufficient building to cater to the contemporary requirements of the Ministry. (NewsWire)
