The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has decided to appoint Jayantha Ketagoda as a member of the Parliament to fill the vacancy that will be created by State Minister of Finance Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said the State Minister will resign from his Parliament seat as a National List MP.
State Minister Cabraal is set to step down as a member of Parliament in order to assume duties as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Jayantha Ketagoda had entered Parliament as a National List MP following the General Elections in 2020 but resigned in July 2021 in order to allow Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa to be appointed as a member of Parliament. (NewsWire)
