Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa has raised concerns over the appointment of former Parliamentarian Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Issuing a statement, MP Premadasa further called for the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to be free of politicization.

Stating that the Central Bank is responsible for making policy decisions on fiscal reserves, he said it is imperative to keep it separate from political influence.

The Opposition Leader pointed out that the Government has decided to grant a political appointment to the post of Governor of the Central Bank.

He said this move delivers a death blow on the credibility of the Bank and it will inevitably undermine the confidence of international investors in Sri Lanka.
